Begin with a vision, add dedicated staff and students, the support of non-profits, and even government agencies, and something magic can happen. Join us for lunch and a guided tour that will explore how the University of Maryland integrates teaching, research, health care, sustainability, preservation, art, and home into its busy campus. Learn how, even with no new budget, a community-centric arboretum and botanic garden came to be.

Through hard work, creative thinking, and community outreach, the University of Maryland has, over the last eleven years, developed and grown an arboretum that touches all aspects of campus and community life. Visit the Community Learning Garden, the Reiley Garden and Bee Wall, the Peace and Friendship Garden, the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, the recycling facility, and other spaces along the way, and hear from the people who developed these engaging new spaces and continue to cultivate their growth. 

IMPORTANT: This tour will eventually end up at Brookside Gardens. It will not be returning to the conference hotel.

Departure: Tours depart outside the Blue Room Prefunction on the East side of the conference hotel. Please arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to departure time.

Additionally, the Association will not be able to accommodate participants driving their own vehicles to/from offsite locations. All attendees must board the bus at the hotel and return with the group at the scheduled times.
