STEM careers and programs have gained prominence in recent years as youth are shown opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through robotics, computer programming, and game development. Although often overlooked, horticulture provides an opportunity to utilize many STEM fields. Public gardens have a unique platform to highlight and promote opportunities in horticulture. From stroller walks to summer camps and programs for older children, these education programs serve as an opportunity to impact the professional diversity of future generations by showing youth viable career paths. Participants will learn how to develop engaging, science rich programming for children, youth and families in order to cultivate the next generation of horticulture professionals.
