Nationwide conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are reflected in our own organizations at all levels: Board, leadership and staff. The role of the board is to establish institutional goals and policies: How does that translate in to the organization’s practice and programs? The panel will address questions about decision making, role of the board, and how gardens handle issues like jobs, living wages, food safety, immigration, and public health. The panel will involve the audience in conversations about the issues in their communities, the programs that are developed to address them, and how gardens know when they are having an impact on their communities. Participants will be empowered to look at DEI issues in their communities and find ways their organizations can be part of solutions to complex problems that are rooted in basic human needs.
