Research studies have found that students enjoy learning environmental science concepts in a hands-on, active, and experiential way, and outdoor components add depth and meaning to their indoor learning activities. Washington Youth Garden (WYG), a program of Friends of the National Arboretum, has developed programs based on published research, our own participant feedback, ongoing data collection, and third party evaluation. Our garden-based programs nurture curious minds and healthy bodies by connecting children and youth to food, the land, and each other. Session attendees will be inspired to create programs focused on including children and older youth in nature experiences at their sites.
