Outreach efforts are essential to increase appreciation and funding for plant conservation efforts. Stemming the decline in national botanical capacity, and by extension the decline in plant diversity itself, requires that the general public, policy makers, and others value plants and natural areas. Delivering the message that “Plants are not Optional” need not be daunting. Speakers with experience delivering plant conservation messages will share their knowledge and provide updates on relevant policies and laws such as the Endangered Species Act, Convention on Biological Diversity, and Global Strategy for Plant Conservation.
